Raised in South Minneapolis, as a graduate of the College of St. Thomas and Harvard Law School, John practiced law in Minneapolis for 40 years, first with his father and then as a partner at Fredrickson & Byron. He had a wide ranging practice, with a focus on real estate and local government law. He acted as a mentor and role model for many. John was active in the community and the law profession. He served as a board member of various local health organizations, including as Chair of the Riverside Medical Center, a founding member of the Minnesota State Bar commission on housing and urban development, vice chair of the Edina planning commission, and as an adjunct faculty member at the William Mitchell College of Law. With a strong belief in conciliation, he served as a mediator after his retirement. John continued to learn and grow right up until his death. Theology, history, technology, and architecture captured his imagination. He was an avid runner. His faith was central throughout his life, including his many years of church choir, Serra International, and daily readings. He loved to travel, Bea by his side, and cherished his days in the Florida sunshine. With full and grateful hearts, his family thanks The Waters of Edina, ComForCare and Grace Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, John designated the Southern Poverty Law Center for donations.
